Our God Does Not Change

A few weeks ago, we had the annual GEMS and Cadets camp out at Samford. We had a great weekend with around 50 boys and girls enjoying the outdoors together. The Bible teaching over the weekend was focused on our awesome Creator God. We learnt about God’s awesome power, creativity and wisdom that He has displayed in creation for all to see (Rom. 1:20). In fact, we were extremely blessed to have one of the Dads bring along a powerful telescope through which we could observe more of God’s spectacular creation as displayed in the heavens. It was amazing to gaze upon the stars and planets like Jupiter and Saturn. The magnitude of the night sky and the reality that God created it was truly humbling. Whilst looking through the telescope, I was reminded of one of my favourite Bible verses, from James 1:17:Every good and perfect gift is from above,...

When God paints outside the lines

I am a self-confessed planner; I like to know what is going to happen in the future. I can go with the flow, but I feel much better if I have a long-term plan. This can make being a parent of young adults difficult, at times. I certainly love this stage of parenting, but I don’t love all the unanswered questions: What will they study? Where will they work? Where will they live? And the list goes on and on. Don’t get me wrong, I am not afraid of these things happening, I just don’t like the feeling of uncertainty that comes along with it. Why am I sharing this with you? Well, I want to share some truths with you that God has reminded me of lately and that have provided me with comfort in the uncertainty of life. Firstly, no matter how much I want to think differently, I...

The Power of Community

What does the word ‘community’ mean to you? Of course, it can mean many things; our neighbourhood, our friends, our colleagues at work, our classmates at school. I could go on. But to the New Testament church, it was so much more. In Acts 2:42–47 we read how the early church truly did life together; they sold possessions, they cared for those less fortunate, they shared meals and testimonies with one another. The early church truly came together as one. This truth should challenge and inspire us today. It should challenge us to share our lives, to care for one another, to share the testimony of what Jesus has done for us with one another. In other words, it should challenge us to be the body of Christ. In a body, all the different parts need to work together for the body to function effectively. No matter what role that part...

Reflections on Motherhood

Ahhh, motherhood… This past week has seen my eldest turn 21, and throughout those 21 years of being a mum, there have been times it has felt like being on a roller-coaster. When I look back, I think of the many joy-filled, fun times I have shared with my kids. I remember the joy it gave me to see them master a new skill or develop a God-given gift and then use it for God’s glory. Or I remember with fondness when I witnessed them show kindness or encouragement to others. But I also remember the not-so-fun times. If you’re a mum, you know the times I’m referring to! I remember the endless questions, the sticky fingers, the sleepless nights, the constant interruptions, the overly dramatic tantrums, and the continual correction and teaching that was required. I remember never getting a minute to myself and I remember the sheer and utter exhaustion...

Happy Fathers Day!

Sunday will be the first fathers day that I celebrate without my dad, who passed away in December. Although my dad did not live his life has a Christian man, he was a good man, always there to help anyone who needed help. My dad also taught me many things, but I think the most important lesson I ever learned from him was to always have a go, which is a good thing, as this year we have had to have a go at things that we had always relied on him to do. We have had to actually use the skills that he has spent his life trying to teach us, I must admit, I think should have paid more attention at times, however I have been surprised at what lessons actually did sink in. As I ponder the loss of my dad this week, I am challenged as I...

Growth Groups

connectAt BPCC we want to do our Christian walk together, we believe each one of us is on a journey, where we are being called to continually CONNECT with God and with people, TO GROW in our relationship with Christ, TO SERVE God with the gifts and abilities he has given us, and TO GO into our circles of influence and share the Gospel of Christ to those who don’t yet know him. Today I want to talk to you about Growth Groups, you will have heard a bit about them lately. We believe that Growth Groups are a great way to journey together, on our Christian walk. Growth Groups provide a place where you make real friendships with other believers, and grow in your relationship with Christ.   Growth Groups provide a place where you can study God’s word and be challenged to dig deeper and apply what you have...

Help your kids grow to become disciples of Jesus Christ

Last Thursday night we celebrated and honoured our mums at our annual mother daughter night at GEMS. We enjoyed a night of pampering, yummy treats and we were entertained by our very talented GEMS and some brave mums in our Talent show. This years focus on mothers night, was all about spending time and being present with our girls, but this principle extends further than mothers and daughters, it extends to dads and their sons, and grandparents and aunts, uncles and mentors too. Our culture today is telling our kids, that what parents and other significant people have to say is not as important as our kids peers, and the Media. Look at any girls magazine, no where amongst its pages will you find mention of mum or dad. Our children's teenage years are not a time for us to stand back and let culture take over. It can be a...

GEMS 2014

Last Thursday night saw our first GEMS meeting for 2014, we had over 30 girls attend from grades 1 - 7. We had a great night getting to know the new girls and catching up with the GEMS from Last Year. Some of you may not know this, but the name GEMS actually stands for ‘Girls Everywhere Meeting their Saviour’. So GEMS is essentially about; sharing the Gospel with young girls, it’s our prayer we can teach and encourage them towards a personal relationship with Christ. Every year all of our clubs around Australia work through a theme which forms the focus of our teaching throughout the year. This year our theme is It’s God’s…... Handle with Care. We are very enthusiastic about helping our GEMS discover not only that everything belongs to God (including their lives), but also teaching them how we are to be good stewards with what God...

GEMS

This past fortnight at GEMS (Girls Everywhere Meeting their Saviour) Our primary aged girls ministry at BPCC. I was reminded of the importance of adults who ‘stand in the gap’ for our young people. Over the past year one of our GEMS has been living in a foster situation. We have really seen her grow and change and develop a new found confidence in who she is. Sadly for us, but a positive step for her, is that she will not be returning to GEMS as she is moving back to be with her own family. One thing I am very grateful for is that over the past year, she has had adults stand in the gap for her. People who have provided her with basic needs and more importantly love and care. She has also had the GEMS team stand in the gap for her spiritually. This past year at...

….Your Word is Truth John 17:17b

This year at Gems and Cadets we are encouraging the boys and girls to ‘Search for the Truth’ throughout their lives.  This is a challenge I want to encourage us all to take up. In our culture today we are sold so many false messages that go against what the word of God says, it is important to remember that we are only temporary residents in our world, as it  says in 1 Peter 2:11-12

11 Dear friends, I warn you as “temporary residents and foreigners” to keep away from worldly desires that wage war against your very souls. 12 Be careful to live properly among your unbelieving neighbours. Then even if they accuse you of doing wrong, they will see your honourable behaviour, and they will give honour to God when he judges the world.[a]

GEMS & Cadets

2012 has been a great year for GEMS and Cadets, our primary school aged ministries for girls and boys at BPCC, we have had the privilege of leading more than 30 girls and 30 boys throughout the year. Our theme for this year has been ‘Get Wisdom: Go Beyond the Gold!’ which has involved a study of the book of Proverbs and the wisdom God imparted to King Solomon for us to learn from. It has been exciting to watch these boys and girls discovering many truths that can help them in their lives today through the book of proverbs.

Both GEMS and Cadets have learnt many new skills this year, during our Programs. The GEMS have tried their hand at baking, cross stitch and many other craft projects. They also had a fabulous time with their parents at our mother daughter night in May and our recent father daughter night in September. Cadets have also tried many new things, some of the boys have had a go at woodworking, cooking, metalworking and discovering their musical side. Not to mention all the activities the boys and their dads have been involved in during their camps.

Gems & Cadets

We wanted to take this opportunity to share with you what is happening at GEMS and Cadets here at BPCC.2012 is shaping up to be a fantastic year for these ministries, with many great activities planned. Each year GEMS and Cadets around Australia work through a theme, this year the theme is ‘Get Wisdom” and is based on the book of Proverbs, so this year we will study the book of Proverbs helping these kids to realise that God’s wisdom is so much better than the wisdom of the world. It has been really encouraging to see the kids really digging into the word of God.

GEMS and Cadets around the country also support a mission each year. This year we will be focusing on raising money for the Bethesda Disability Centre in the SolomonIslands. As part of the mission focus for 2011/12 the kids will learn more about people with disabilities andlife in the Solomon Islands. We plan to have fundraising events throughout the year and would love for youto support these events as our goal is to help the centre to set up their own egg farm so that they can become self funded.
