How do you keep air in your spiritual tyres? I quite often ask people that, especially people in ministry leadership. How do you keep your spiritual batteries charged so that your witness for Jesus shines brightly?
As we enter a new month, let me ask you this same question: What do you do to stay close to the truth that you are a forgiven, heaven bound son or daughter of the Living God? If you answer: “I attend church on Sunday (or most Sundays),” I’m thinking you’re not as pumped up or shining as brightly as you could be. I know that from personal experiences. I know that because the time-starved pressured lives most of us live, causes us to move through life far too fast!
Here’s a question for you Dads: Do you attend your kids’ sports events and school plays? And Mums: Are the challenges of motherhood, work and home-duties keeping you from loving your husband and kids like you really want to?
Now that I’m a grandparent with no kids living at home, I’m finding that I still clog my life up with so many things (most of them are good things), but nevertheless, I still struggle with keeping my spiritual tyres pumped up!
Here’s a question for us grandparents: Do you make time for your grandchildren? Do they see you at church worshipping God every Sunday, and do they see you in His Word at home? Do you talk about God’s involvement in your life?
As we enter a new month, and nearly the half-way point of 2017, let me encourage us all to re-calibrate our priorities to reflect what we want the legacy of our life to be for our children and grandchildren. I’m pretty sure if we do that, we’ll also be doing what Jesus calls us to do and be. He says:
“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” (Matthew 11:28-30)
