This week at Worship Team rehearsal we had our usual devotion time during which I shared with the Team a specific scripture that has often helped me in times of stress. We then had a time where each person shared their favourite bible verse(s). It was so encouraging to hear from others how scripture is used in their life. Not just in times of need, but in times of celebration, for direction, for motivation, for peace! It reminded me the importance of truly knowing scripture.
Gods word actually tells us to know scripture, you're probably aware of this commandment God gives us; "You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise. You shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes. You shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates." (Deuteronomy 6:7-9)
There is such power in knowing Gods word and being able to draw from it in day to day life. Even more importantly, knowing God's word helps us live life according to His will and live with holy determination and power. Hebrews 4:12 says "For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart."
Perhaps as a church we could learn this verse together as we prepare for Christmas?
"Thanks be to God for his inexpressible gift!" (2 Cor 9:15)
I pray His strength is your motivation and that
His word sustains you in all life brings.
