For a number of years now, BPCC has partaken in ‘Operation Christmas Child’; a project organised and run by Samaritan’s Purse. Operation Christmas Child uses gift-filled shoeboxes to demonstrate God’s love in a tangible way to children in need around the world. And this year BPCC is very excited to be part of it again!
At Kidz Church in Term 3 we will be busy sorting and making items for the boxes. We will be writing letters and taking photos to include in our boxes. And at the end of the term all of the items will be packed into shoeboxes to be sent overseas to children who may have never received a gift before. This project provides us with an amazing opportunity to not only promote mercy in our own families, but also to demonstrate God’s great love for all of His creation.
There are lots of ways you can be involved!
Fill a shoebox
Collect a shoebox from the Connections Centre, along with a leaflet of instructions on what put in your shoebox. Decide on the gender and age of your shoebox recipient and pack the box with items to suit. Please either go to the Samaritan’s Purse website (www.samaritanspurse.org.au) to pay for your postage online or include the correct cash in your shoebox. If paying online, you will be sent a label to print and glue onto your box, indicating that postage has been paid. If you haven’t paid online, simply glue the label from your instruction leaflet onto your box, ticking the correct age. We will let you know the date all boxes will need to be back at BPCC.
There will be donation boxes in the church foyer, the church office, and at Kidz Church sign-on throughout Term 3 for you to bring in items for the shoeboxes. Any items donated will be sorted and packed into shoeboxes by the children at Kidz Church. We will also be asking for certain items on certain weeks, which will hopefully make donating easier for you. However, we are more than happy to collect any items any time. Just a reminder that all items need to be new. Please do not donate anything used or pre-loved. (Note: we are very happy to have hand-made items for the boxes, i.e., small teddy bears, cloth pencil cases, marble bags, toiletry bags, face washers, etc.)
There will also be collection tins at the Connections Centre, in the church office, and at Kidz Church sign-on throughout Term 3 for any cash donations you would like to make. This is very much appreciated as we often have extra items we need to purchase toward the end of packing to make sure each box has the correct things in it. We also need to cover the postage costs of boxes packed by Kidz Church.
