This year at Gems and Cadets we are encouraging the boys and girls to ‘Search for the Truth’ throughout their lives. This is a challenge I want to encourage us all to take up. In our culture today we are sold so many false messages that go against what the word of God says, it is important to remember that we are only temporary residents in our world, as it says in 1 Peter 2:11-12
11 Dear friends, I warn you as “temporary residents and foreigners” to keep away from worldly desires that wage war against your very souls. 12 Be careful to live properly among your unbelieving neighbours. Then even if they accuse you of doing wrong, they will see your honourable behaviour, and they will give honour to God when he judges the world.[a]
So how are we to do this, how are we to live properly in this world, where the culture goes against the ways of God. I think we are to spend our lives searching for the truth and putting it into practice. In the book of James it says
22 But don’t just listen to God’s word. You must do what it says. Otherwise, you are only fooling yourselves. 23 For if you listen to the word and don’t obey, it is like glancing at your face in a mirror. 24 You see yourself, walk away, and forget what you look like. 25 But if you look carefully into the perfect law that sets you free, and if you do what it says and don’t forget what you heard, then God will bless you for doing it. James 1:22-25
Not only are we to listen to God’s word, we are to put it into practice, but before we can put something into practice, we need to know what it is we are to put into practice. So I want to encourage you to seek the truth, every day, read your bible, join a Life Group, attend a Wednesday Ministry Night, read good Christian books, maybe even attend the Advance Together Conference on May 18, there are so many recourses available to you. Searching for the Truth is to be a lifelong pursuit.
